Gold comes in a variety of karats and colors. Over the past few decades white gold rings have been the choice for many, so when will the trend sway back to yellow gold rings? We don’t know. But we do know that regardless of trends there are some things to consider when choosing which color of gold is right for you.
White Gold is the leader when it comes to engagement rings and wedding rings. Many people are in love with the rich silvery color of Platinum, but don’t want to pay the hefty price tag, so white gold rings have become a very nice option for those wanting that silvery finish. White gold rings also allow the diamonds to reflect a cleaner color, where yellow gold can sometimes give the illusion of a yellow tint in the diamond.
In the case of rings with gemstones, white gold does a great job of contrasting colors, but can at times can give too much contrast, especially with darker, richer colored gems – giving them the illusion that the stone is darker than it really is.
One major thing to consider when choosing a white or yellow gold ring is the maintenance. White gold in its raw state is more gray in color, so Rhodium plating is used to give it a brighter, whiter finish. However, the Rhodium will wear down over time and your white gold ring will begin to yellow in color. When this happens you will want to send it to your jeweler, so he/she can easily re-dip in the Rhodium, which will restore your ring’s bright white finish. Unlike white gold rings, yellow gold rings do not need Rhodium plating, as they will continue keep their rich yellow color over the years. However, you will need to polish your ring from time to time and maybe even send it to your jeweler for a deep polish periodically, as doing this will help the yellow gold stay shiny as it can loose its luster and dull a bit over time.
In the United States, yellow gold rings make up the majority of the rings created during the early 1900′s, but it has always been a more favorable color in other countries, outside the United States. Should you want to create a ring with an older, classic looking style, yellow gold can help give your ring that extra vintage appeal.
The greatest factor in deciding which color of gold is right for your ring really depends on your personal taste. Regardless of the current trend, there is no right or wrong color of gold. Choose the color you favor, to create the style you adore, for the ring you will love for a lifetime!

Compare White Man Made Diamonds to earth mined diamonds
Man Made Diamonds also described as Synthetic Diamonds, Cultured Diamonds, Lab Created Diamonds or Lab Grown Diamonds are real diamonds that are both, optically, physically, atomically and chemically identical to a natural diamond. These diamonds are grown in a lab environment that replicates the earth’s natural growing process. Synthetic man made diamonds are identical to earth mined diamonds and are solid, pure carbon diamonds. MiaDonna’s® line of man made diamonds will absolutely test positive on any jewelers diamond tester and all come with either EGLUSA or GIA certified grading reports.
Growing White Man Made Diamonds
MiaDonna® man made diamonds are mostly grown using a Bars Press. Growing a white diamond requires an incredibly controlled environment. The heat and pressure must remain consistent through the entire growing process. Any fluctuation or change within the growth cell can cause the diamond itself to stop growing or can create heavy inclusions in the new growth making it unusable.
Extracting the nitrogen and boron from the growth cell to remove the color from the diamond lattice also causes the diamond to grow much slower. White diamonds typically take up to two weeks or longer to grow a 1.0 carat stone.
It is the extended growth time, the need to extract certain elements from the growth cell and the demand to keep the heat and pressure consistent that makes growing a white diamond so difficult and thus contributes to their limited availability. Learn more on how to grow a diamond.
Pricing White Man Made Diamonds
Unlike earth mined diamonds, Synthetic Grown Diamonds are in very limited supply. The process used to create a white diamond is also the most time consuming and temperamental. Given that white earth mined diamonds are in abundance and White Synthetics are in limited supply the cost ends up being very comparable. A typical 1.0 carat Synthetic Diamond will range from $5,600 to $10,000. White Synthetic Diamonds are priced nearly identically to mined diamonds using the cut, carat weight, color and clarity to determine their individual worth. With that being said, the environmental and humanitarian benefits to purchasing a Synthetic Diamond are incomparable to the conflict and human rights violations associated with every earth mined diamond. Availability of White Man Mad Diamonds
White diamonds also described as colorless are the most sought after diamonds. While ‘white earth mined diamonds’ are the most plentiful in nature, the exact opposite is true for ‘White Synthetic Diamonds’ made in a lab.
White Synthetic Diamonds are the hardest color to produce and also take the longest to grow. The largest Synthetic White Diamonds being produced today get upwards of nearly 1.0 carat. However, the average size available and the average size offered by MiaDonna & Co.® is typically between 0.40 to 0.60 carats.
MiaDonna® prides itself on being a research company and will always be at the forefront of the best and latest technologies in Man Made Diamond science, however, we believe it will be many years before White Synthetic Diamonds are produced in larger sizes (above 0.80ct and in the colorless range) on a consistent basis.
One thing to consider is the availability of vivid yellow, pink and fancy blue diamonds. All Synthetic Blue, Pink and Yellow Diamonds are incredibly rare in nature and offer a very unique look to any piece of jewelry.
Many people who are in search of a White Synthetic Diamond find a colored Synthetic Diamond to be even more desirable after taking some time to research these rare colored stones. There is a very strong possibility that said company is using these descriptive terms to mislead and inaccurately advertise a simulant, most of the time it is plain Cubic Zirconia.

Considering Drew Barrymore‘s new fiancé Will Kopelman is an art consultant, it’s no surprise that the actress’ brand-new engagement ring is truly, well, a work of art.
The ring features a colorless radiant-cut diamond — which weighs in at just under 4 carats — situated on a diamond-covered band. The stunning sparkler was designed by Graff Diamonds, though “[Kopelman] picked it out,” a source tells PEOPLE.
Kopelman and Barrymore have been linked romantically since February of last year. The couple got engaged in Sun Valley, Idaho, while vacationing over the holidays.
