The Greener Diamond has been working with Youth Action International for a little over a year now with the goal of re-using an abandoned diamond mine in the Konor region of Sierra leone, to plant rice fields and train reformed child soldiers the trade of farming. Our project is called the ENOUGH! project.
However, we wanted to take a moment and share with you a story about a 10 year old girl named Fiona. Fiona is from Calgary, Canada and recently attended a conference where Kimmie Weeks, the founder of Youth Action International, was telling his story of surviving an African civil war and personally disarming childhood soldiers at a very young age.
After hearing Kimmie’s story 10 year old Fiona decided to actually do something. This February she is going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in an order to raise money for YAI. Fiona’s mother and younger sister have also decided to climb the mountain in a show of support for both Fiona and their cause. Fiona’s goal is to raise $10,000.00 for Youth Action International.
You can read Fiona’s story and donate to her cause here. She only needs 1,000 people to donate $10.00 each to reach her goal!
Fiona, all of us here at The Greener Diamond and MiaDonna & Company would like to applaud you for being an amazing person and wish you the best of luck. Remember, the choices we make, make us brilliant and I think you are a BRILLIANT little lady!
From our team to yours, Happy Hiking! – Anna-Mieke Anderson
