Eco friendly jeweler MiaDonna working with ex child soldiers in Africa

Finally, we are happy to announce that the ENOUGH project is officially underway. We will be breaking ground in May and are starting to deliver the resources necessary to give these kids and their community a new start on life. Over the past year the word has spread in Africa about the ENOUGH project and in that time the 150 ex child soldiers that where waiting on us has now grown to over 500. We will be working in a small village in the Konor region of Sierra Leone. Our goal is to provide this community with all the tools, skills and resources necessary to turn a toxic, abandoned, diamond mine into a thriving rice field, giving these kids and their community a sustainable source of food and money.

Working with Liberian native and globally recognized humanitarian Kimmie Weeks, and his foundation “Youth Action International”, we will over see this project from start to finish, including visiting the community ourselves to witness the rebuild first hand.

MiaDonna and The Greener Diamond where created to educate consumers about the decisions they make, to return and assist damaged communities and to offer exquisite environmentally friendly jewelry. Over the past 3 years we have done our very best to offer breath taking eco friendly, conflict free jewelry and Go Green in as many ways as we can think of. Now, because of your support, a small community in Africa will finally see that people do care and that are love for beautiful diamonds and gold doesn’t have to destroy anyone’s land or livelihood. Its because of you, our supporters, that we can finally make good on our word and start to be the change we want to see in the world.

We will be updating our blog regularly and have a few more very exciting things coming up to help fund the ENOUGH project, including an all expenses paid trip for two to hang out with John Littlefield on the set of Extreme makeover Home Edition, help him design a room and be there to “move that bus”.

10 year old will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise funds for Youth Action International.

The Greener Diamond has been working with Youth Action International for a little over a year now with the goal of re-using an abandoned diamond mine in the Konor region of Sierra leone, to plant rice fields and train reformed child soldiers the trade of farming. Our project is called the ENOUGH! project.

However, we wanted to take a moment and share with you a story about a 10 year old girl named Fiona. Fiona is from Calgary, Canada and recently attended a conference where Kimmie Weeks, the founder of Youth Action International, was telling his story of surviving an African civil war and personally disarming childhood soldiers at a very young age.
After hearing Kimmie’s story 10 year old Fiona decided to actually do something. This February she is going to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in an order to raise money for YAI. Fiona’s mother and younger sister have also decided to climb the mountain in a show of support for both Fiona and their cause. Fiona’s goal is to raise $10,000.00 for Youth Action International.
You can read Fiona’s story and donate to her cause here. She only needs 1,000 people to donate $10.00 each to reach her goal!

Fiona, all of us here at The Greener Diamond and MiaDonna & Company would like to applaud you for being an amazing person and wish you the best of luck. Remember, the choices we make, make us brilliant and I think you are a BRILLIANT little lady!
From our team to yours, Happy Hiking!  – Anna-Mieke Anderson

SOS Children’s Villages is calling for help in Haiti.

Just this morning we received an email from Heather at SOS Children’s villages. Long story short, things are bad and they really need help. Below we have posted the email in its entirety for you to read. The Greener Diamond has received funds from MiaDonna&Co. and we have already donated what we can. If there is anything that you can spare we urge you to do the same. Little amounts from lots of sources add up fast.

Dear Anna,

Things have gotten worse.

Our people on the ground are telling us that children are at the greatest risk of dying due to lack of water and the shortage of medical care and medical supplies. They’ve made it through the night, but we only have so much to give.

SOS staff on the ground need more help, more medical supplies, shelter materials, and food for children to survive another night.

We are reaching out to you because you have supported SOS in the past.

Please help us respond to the earthquake in Haiti right now.

We will keep you up-to-date with our staff on the ground in Haiti. Later today, we will send a detailed report on our response.

Thank you for standing with us.

Heather Paul, PhD
Executive Director
SOS Children’s Villages – USA

P.S. Please help SOS to respond to children and families in need. Donate now.

EMHE Johnny in the ENOUGH! shirt helps out the Scott family.

The "ENOUGH" T shirt worn By John Littlefield on EMHEWhat an incredible episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition this last Sunday. The Scott family headed by Trina Scott after loosing her husband Dave in the line of duty has asked EMHE to help with their home that is being taken over buy termites and is ready to crumble. Trina lost her husband Dave in a car accident while perusing a suspect as a member of the Clarksville Tennessee police department. . Trina and her 3 daughters Leyla, 17, Deidie, 13 and Alethea 11 had their lives changed in the blink of an eye. Trina Scott took her tragedy and used it to help other family’s who had also lost loved ones in the line of Duty. Trina Scott is now the president of an organization called C.O.P.S (Concerns of Police Survivors) that reaches out and offers support to these family’s. No doubt the this episode will have you in tears before Ty, Johnny, Micheal and Paige even step off the bus.
